Slide Number
I think it would be helpful that the sliding news had a "number" so you knew how many stories there were and in which one you were at the moment.
The "number" could be like the IGN Touch app for the iPad with those 4 circles that let you know in which slide you're on.

We’ve rolled out a new version of the coverstories slider element with
(a) grouping indicators, so you can easily skip from one item to the next, as well as showing how many groups there are
(b) an indicator fuse showing how long until the next rotation
© clicking a tab will stop the autorotation, clicking again will restart. watching a video will also pause the rotation, but not restart on close
